Rumour out of Dearborn is that Ford is considering building a new coupe for Lincoln, based on the rear-wheel-drive DEW Mustang platform. It would be Lincoln’s first coupe since the Mark VIII (inset picture) disappeared in 1998. The idea is a welcome about face for Ford’s luxury brand, which has been tending towards front- and all-wheel-drive cars, while competitors like Cadillac focus on RWD. The Lincoln LS, rumoured to go out of production at the end of 2006, is actually built on an earlier version of the DEW platform. Reportedly, the car will carry its own styling, but use the pony car’s V6 and V8 engine. Look for it towards the end of the decade.
